Writing in the Telegraph, Hunt says the 'family home tax guarantee' will also ensure the number of council tax bands stays the same, as well as promising to maintain private residence relief - meaning homeowners do not pay capital gaints tax on their main home when sold.
Hunt urges the Labour party to follow suit in their own election campaigning, adding:
“I am throwing down the gauntlet to Rachel Reeves [the Labour shadow chancellor] and Sir Keir Starmer to join us in this pledge. This isn’t party political point scoring. I actually want to see the Labour Party say they will put families first and higher taxes second.”
