Green Finance Institute appoints green mortgage campaign lead

The green mortgage market has expanded from four products on offer in 2019, to over 60 available today.

The Green Finance Institute (GFI) has appointed Chloe Timperley as its green mortgage campaign lead. 

In her new role, Chloe will work with partners from across the sector to drive growth in the UK green mortgage market and the GFI’s mission to decarbonise the built environment. 

Chloe will continue to drive the GFI’s work in this space, including developing the Certificate in Green Mortgages, which provides training on the opportunities provided by green finance solutions. The Certificate, launched in April 2024, is designed to help educate mortgage professionals to understand, define and sell green mortgage products. 

Formerly a senior policy adviser at The Association of Mortgage Intermediaries (AMI), where she led the cross-industry Green Mortgage Advice Initiative, Chloe has extensive experience in regulatory policy and financial planning and has worked across a range of policy areas including ESG, the FCA’s Consumer Duty regime and the later life market. 

Chloe previously spearheaded the ‘Working in Mortgages’ diversity and inclusion programme at the AMI. 

Commenting on her appointment, Chloe Timperley said:  “The GFI has done a fantastic job of driving the mortgage market toward more green lending for UK homeowners. The mortgage industry has a key role to play in decarbonising the UK housing stock, and I'm thrilled to carry this work forward as green mortgage campaign lead, as we work to decarbonise the built environment at pace and scale.”

Emma Harvey-Smith, chief of staff at the Green Finance Institute, added: “The Green Finance Institute’s Built Environment Programme is developing and delivering the consumer finance products needed to decarbonise homes and green the UK’s housing stock. We need a diverse range of financial solutions, accessible to the vast range of homeowners, to make homes more energy-efficient, resilient and adaptable to a changing climate. Green mortgages can play a vital role the decarbonisation of Britain’s homes and we are delighted to have Chloe join our team to drive forward our work to grow the green mortgage market.”
